After finishing my teaching program in Hong Kong, I had the incredible opportunity to travel to Beijing, China, for a week with some of my fellow teammates. We were able to relax, visit famous tourist sights, and spend time with university students in the city. Even though we were all very tired and ready to return to the USA, we were thrilled to be able to walk the streets of a city that is not only the capital of China, but also the host of the 2008 Summer Olympics and the home of some of history’s most noted events.
To be honest, I didn’t think I would like Beijing. I thought it would be crowded, confusing, and crazy busy. However, I was completely and totally wrong. Yes, the city was crowded, and yes, the language barrier was confusing. The city was indeed crazy busy, but surprisingly enough, I actually really enjoyed my time in Beijing. In fact, I would even go back to Beijing and visit it again. Beijing was a treasure trove of life lessons and beautiful moments that I will forever treasure, and I’m looking forward to sharing some of my thoughts and photos about this special city with you all in the coming weeks.
